Woo Hoo! My kids got to start back to school this past Monday. I really tried to get ready for a big year since all 3 of my kids will be in school this year. (skipping around the room…eeeeek!) Below are my ideas for creating a home command center.
I don’t have much wall space in my home. It’s a small home and we have lot of nook and corners along with windows. So this was a little bit of a challenge. But I managed to find a solution that I think will work for us.
First I purchased a pack of 4 cork board tiles at Target for around $6-7. They adhere to the wall with little stickies and seem to stay very well. Then I looked for a specific calendar that would fit nicely since I like symmetry. This calendar I also found at Target for $10. (It even has tear off To Do, To Call & Buy. Awesome!)
I already owned this super cute “family” sign I got at Hobby Lobby awhile ago on sale. I knew I would find a place somewhere. I think I found a perfect place for my “home” printable I got free online….
((if you remember or know the source please leave it in the comments.))
Now this wooden holder I was given by a friend years ago. She got it at Target forever ago. (seeing a trend here, Lol.) It was a dark wood and went with a desk set. However I wanted to make it light and fun. I spray painted it white with some Rustoleum. Then I hand painted the front metal X’s a fun aqua. I used scrapbook stickers to put each childs name on the front, then modge podged over the fronts to make them stay.
This is where the kids put all of there work and art work when they come home from school. Then we go through them when they get full.
I hope this inspires you to get ready for school or get an area set up just for them. I think it not only makes them feel important but helps them to learn organization themselves.
Do you have a command center? I’d love to see it. How do you manage the crazy amounts of school work in your home?

I love your command center. I just finished what I’ve coined my “Homework Station” as well. I have a Kindergartener…had no idea the amount of paperwork that would follow him home {smile}. Great job! (stopping by from the Weekend Wrap Up – Tatertots and Jello)
